Affordable Electric Vehicle from Jindal Group Set to Hit the Roads : The Jindal Group is taking a bold leap into the automotive sector. Known for its success in cement, paints, and ports, the conglomerate is now entering the EV space with a budget-friendly electric car priced between Rs 10-12 lakh. The aim? To make electric mobility more accessible for Indian families.

Compact EV in Development, Larger SUV in the Pipeline

The group is currently working on a compact electric car that will be smaller than the existing Windsor model. Designed to meet mass-market demand, this new vehicle is expected to offer affordability without compromising on performance.

At the same time, a larger SUV is being developed, featuring electric, hybrid, and ICE (internal combustion engine) options. This move will allow JSW to cater to a wide range of customer needs.

Strategic Partnerships with Global Automotive Players

While MG Motor India remains JSW’s primary automotive partner, the group is expanding its network. It has teamed up with a Chinese original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to bring cutting-edge technology into its own JSW-branded cars. The first model launch is targeted for early 2027.

In the commercial vehicle segment, JSW has already secured a global OEM license. Though these vehicles won’t carry the JSW name, production is expected to begin by mid-2026.

Rs 10,000 Crore Investment in New Auto Manufacturing Hub

To support its ambitious plans, JSW is making a Rs 10,000 crore investment through its promoter group. The funds will go toward building a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The facility will handle the production of both commercial and passenger vehicles.

The company is also exploring the possibility of manufacturing EV batteries, which could further strengthen its position in the EV ecosystem.

Solving Range Anxiety and Boosting Local Production

JSW says range anxiety is no longer a major concern thanks to evolving battery technology. The Windsor electric car already offers a range of 400+ km with a 53kWh battery, and 330 km with a 38kWh version.

Localization efforts have made significant progress too. At launch, the Windsor had just 27% local content. By mid-2026, JSW plans to increase that to 85%, with only the motors and battery cells still imported.

Strong EV Sales Position Jindal Group as Market Leader

More than 80% of JSW MG Motor India’s sales are now electric vehicles, putting the group on track to become a top EV player in India.

With the Windsor EV priced between Rs 13-18 lakh, the upcoming Rs 10-12 lakh model is aimed squarely at middle-class buyers. This affordable offering could significantly boost JSW’s market share in the coming years.

Jindal Group’s EV Vision Is Bold and Well-Timed

The Jindal Group’s entry into the EV space comes at a time when India is actively transitioning toward cleaner transportation. With a clear focus on affordability, local manufacturing, and innovation, the group is well-positioned to reshape the electric vehicle landscape.

Consumers can look forward to more cost-effective and reliable EV options from a trusted industrial brand. The group’s mix of strategic partnerships, high localisation, and massive investment signals a serious commitment to sustainable mobility in India.
